You’ll Always Remember Your First

If you’re reading this, guess what? You’re thisclose to the end of the work week and July and have the weekend to look forward to. I’m not sure what y’all may have planned but I hope that it is relaxing. Last weekend for me was a nice mix of fun and responsibility what with having to get two new tires since one was in very bad shape. But I also got to try a new restaurant, go shopping, and spend time with loved ones.

This coming weekend, I will be dropping the teenager off at week-long camp. While I will miss him, I will enjoy the quiet because he’s got a lot of energy and the only time he’s silent is when he’s asleep. I’m hoping to get a lot of work done as well as taking some much needed ‘me’ time.

I also finished my advanced copy of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches and can’t wait for it to come out so you too can share in the warm joy that this book is.

Trope Bookmarks Picture

Romance Trope Book Mark Set by alliterates

This last weekend, my spouse was looking for a bookmark and when I asked if he wanted to borrow one, he replied to me in a loving yet sarcastic way if I had one to spare. Because, in addition to books, I also hoard bookmarks. There shan’t be any dog-earring in this house.

That is why these bookmarks caught my eye when I was looking for today’s bookish goods. Not only is the art amazing and diverse but I love every single one of the tropes. Which is my way of saying these may be finding a home with me very soon. $12

Riot Recommendations

As we near the end of July, I figured the last recommendation for this month would combine both #JenkinsJuly and Christmas in July, with an added bonus one thrown in for funsies. I’ve been a huge romance reader for more than half my life which means I have read a lot. And while I don’t really remember ever single romance I’ve ever read, there are some that will forever stick out in my mind. In this case, these are my first romance reads in some way shape or form and for that they will always have a special place in my heart.

picture of Emma and the Outlaw cover

Emma and the Outlaw by Linda Lael Miller

I’m starting with the very first adult romance novel I ever remember reading. Whether or not this was appropriate since, to me at least, Miller was especially spicy for that time, is both debatable and irrelevant. After all, you can’t go back in time. The original cover drew me in and I remember being both shocked by what I read and intrigued. And, as they say the rest was history.

cover of Indigo

Indigo by Beverly Jenkins

I’ve talked endlessly about how this was my first Jenkins book so it will forever be my favorite. And, yes, I had *this* edition of the book and I have no idea what happened to it. Considering how many times my dad and sister read it as well, it’s quite possible that it literally fell apart since that happened a few times in our bibliophile household. But I love this story of Hester and Galen and swoon every time.

Cover of Merry Inkmas

Merry Inkmas by Talia Hibbert

Talia is also an author I fangirl over and this was the introduction to her world. I loved the sweet romance between Bailey and Cash and how it developed. I also fell in love with Talia’s way of writing which is why she is one of the authors on my auto-buy list.

The cover reveal for Alexandria Bellefleur’s next release was announced and to say I am excited would be an understatement.

Speaking of cover reveals, the one for Talia Hibbert’s YA romance, Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute, now shows up on Goodreads!

Check out this video from Harlequin featuring the amazing Brenda Jackson, talking about her two latest releases.

Embrace Your Happiness

Welcome (back) to Kissing Books and happy Monday. Last week was a little rough for me for many reasons so, as a treat to myself, I decided to take Friday off for a three-day weekend and spent some time with the teenager. With everything going the way it has been and us still being expected to “adult” while desperately trying to keep it together, it is important to remember to take that time off if you can afford to and recharge. I know we’re all looking to lift each other up during these trying times, and that’s great. But if you’re running on “E” yourself, you won’t be efficient at it.

In things making me happy right now: this mentality. I work from home so, most days, only the people who are here see it when I put on make-up. But it makes me feel good, regardless of whether I’m being a glitter goddess or channeling my Goth-ness. If there is something that does this for you, be sure to do it since you’d be surprised at the ego boost something small like that can give.

“Happiness” Sticker by HoneysuckleandLemons

This is a simple yet true statement. There have been many a day where getting a brand new book from a favorite author, physical or digital, has turned my day around, especially if it is something I had forgotten about. Does it also get the song “Happiness” from You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown stuck in my head? Yes but again that is one song that never fails to make me smile. $2.75

cover of The House on Blueberry Lane

House on Blueberry Lane by Brenda Jackson

Two years after she leaves him due to his lack of commitment, he finds her in Catalina Cove and sets out to prove to her that he knows he made a mistake and he will do anything for her to give him a second chance at proving his love.

cover of Another Stupid Love Song

Another Stupid Love Song by Miranda MacLeod & Em Stevens

Miranda is an older rock and roll legend determined to get her career back on track and Jade is the daughter of a former bandmate whose career was allegedly derailed by Miranda. Despite this putting them at odds, both are equally as determined to make it big in the music world and resolve to make it big together, all the while trying to ignore the attraction that has been brewing between them.

Riot Recommendations

Following the theme of happiness, I’m going to recommend a few books that highlight one of my favorite tropes: enemies-to-lovers. I know there has been a lot of discourse on whether or not this is an accurate description of the trope but it’s what I’ve always called it, so I’m sticking to it.

Now I’ve been a big fan of this trope and I never knew why until Living Single started streaming and I saw the dynamic between Maxine and Kyle. And, like many things that I go back to as an adult, it’s like a big lightbulb flickered on in my brain. So, I fully embrace this trope in all its various forms.

cover of Vivid

Vivid by Beverly Jenkins

I love it when my romance novels feature strong and smart women and this book sure has that in Dr. Viveca. The “enemy” is in the form of Mayor Nate, who was expecting a male doctor and isn’t as welcoming as he should have been. He quickly realizes his mistakes though and works endlessly on trying to convince Viveca to give him a second chance.

book cover of Set On You

Set On You by Amy Lea

Gym rivals Crystal and Scott are unpleasantly shocked to find out their grandparents are engaged when they run into each other at the engagement party. As the wedding gets closer, they find themselves coming to a tentative friendship with the possibility of a romance until a photo of the two of them goes viral in an ugly manner.

Speaking of Beverly Jenkins, put this on your calendar now so you don’t miss out!

This is great read as we near the end of #JenkinsJuly and anniversary of 1994’s Black Summer of Love.

Magnetic Bookmarks, Romantic Suspense and Romance Panels

We did it, y’all! We made it through another week and now have the weekend to look forward to. Hopefully you made it through unscathed. I am also putting that hope out there for me since, as of the writing of this newsletter, I am dealing with what feels like severe and vey painful neck strain. Now, I can move my head from side to side, which is nice; but, I can’t do it too fast otherwise the pain will be excruciating. Such is life though!

I’m still working my way through an eARC of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches as well as my copy of No Rings Attached and both are delightful.

Bookish Goods

Romance bookmark Magnets picture

Romance Reader Magnet Bookmark set by CarleyDesignsCo

I love magnetic bookmarks since I think they help to keep your place better. I still remember that brief period of time when my then toddler son would purposefully remove the bookmarks from what I was reading. And I knew it was on purpose because he would laugh and run away when he did it.

Then there was the time I was staying with a friend and left a book in the living room and her cat waited until I was walking out, looked me dead in the eye, and then used a paw to bat at the ribbon and make me lose my place. Rude.

If you’re also a fan of these types of bookmarks and love to advertise your favorite genre, then these would be a perfect addition to your collection. $6

cover of Can't Resist Her

Can’t Resist Her by Kiana Alexander

When the two women find out that they are on opposite ends of this fight, both refuse to back down from what they believe is right for the neighborhood—even though it’s apparent that the attraction that lead to a kiss at the senior dance is still very much present.

So, when he meets high school football coach Ridley and finds himself very attracted to him, he’s apprehensive. He becomes even more so when Ridley admits he’s attracted to James, and James starts thinking that maybe his approach to feelings and relationships should change.

Riot Recommendations

Today’s recommendations include two contemporary romantic suspense novels from two very big names in the Black romance world who happen to share the same initials. Of course, one is Beverly Jenkins, keeping with the celebration of #JenkinsJuly and, if you’re well-read in Black romances, you’ve probably guessed the other is Brenda Jackson.

What I love about these two women is not only are they both hella talented but they’re also both hella classy. We all know the book world is not without drama and will try to create it if it doesn’t grow on its own. So, when you have two women writing in the same field with the same initials? Most gossip hounds would froth at the mouth at the prospect of trying to stir that pot.

But these two were like “Naw…there’s room at this table for both of us” and work(ed) to uplift not just one another, but also other up and coming Black voices. I love it and, even if there weren’t a multitude of other reasons, they would be beyond inspirational for that one alone.

cover of The Edge of Midnight

The Edge of Midnight by Beverly Jenkins

This one has it all: a diamond smuggling scheme, a woman who let herself get drawn into said plot, and the government agent she accidentally shoots when trying to get away. It’s perfect for fans of this type of suspense action with a lot of banter thrown into the mix and was Jenkins’ first foray into this sub-genre of romance.

cover of Entangled Pursuits

Entangled Pursuits by Brenda Jackson

Four years after their steamy affair ended, Detectives Andrew and Antonia, aka Toni, find themselves assigned as each other’s partner for a new homicide case. They try to keep the sexual tension out of their jobs but when Toni’s life is in danger, Andrew can no longer ignore the fact that he’s in love with her. Second chance romance with a thread of a suspense? Yes, please.

I cannot describe how much I *love* that there will be a Romance Panel at this year’s SDCC.

Also happening this Friday is a discussion with Erica Ridley and Tessa Dare at The Ripped Bodice about the former’s latest release, Nobody’s Princess.

This list of must-read romances that have been or will be released this summer is gonna be bad for your checkbook. You’ve been warned and you’re welcome.

Pins, Scavenger Hunts, and Trips Abroad

Hey y’all and welcome back. I know that the world is a dumpster fire right now and that won’t change soon. And while I tend to be a ‘glass half empty’ person, I also recognize that you need to take the time to find joy, even in small things. So, in the spirit of that, I’m going to drop some random facts here that may make you smile.

For starters, July 18th is National Sour Candy Day. Now, yes, it’s “unofficial.” But still, how fun is that? So, go on and get your sour candy fix on today. After all, you’re just observing the holiday right?

Also, rainbows at night, while rare, do happen and are called moonbows.

Hopefully those helped to start your day off on the right foot or perk you up! Now on to the rest of the newsletter.

Hayden is also determined to break down Thomas’s walls and prove that he’s worthy of his love, despite all the challenges and threats that are now headed their way.

Riot Recommendations

We’re keeping with the theme of honoring 1994’s Black Summer of Love with today’s recommendations. They both feature Black romance authors who got their start around that time. Now, this does include Ms. Bev because it’s also #JenkinsJuly, as she is so worthy of a month of celebration.

They’re also all short stories as opposed to full length novels. I love a good novel, don’t get me wrong, but every now and then a short story collection is just up my alley because I can read it in small doses. Even novellas are nice since they can be read in a couple of hours. So, if you’re like me and looking for stories like that, here are some candidates for your consideration.

cover of Island for Two

Island for Two by Beverly Jenkins and Elaine Overtone

I don’t know about y’all, but reading about island getaways and finding love sounds just peachy keen right now. From a plane crash in Hawaii to a Fiji island fling that soon develops into more, these may just be what you need for a getaway from the comfort of your own home. Don’t forget a daquiri!

cover of Rosie's Curl and Weave

Rosie’s Curl and Weave by Rochelle Alers, Donna Hill, Felicia Mason, and Francis Ray

I remember reading this book when I was in high school and enjoying it. So, I was super happy when it was reissued. There are four love stories here, all centered around the neighborhood salon, featuring very different women at different places in their lives. One thing they have in common though? They’re all about to find love very soon!

Keep Cool and Stay Indoors

Hello, friends, and welcome back. I know I say this every week but, with the record high temperatures everywhere, I sincerely hope you’re doing well. We’re reaching record breaking temperatures in my state that we haven’t seen since the early 20th century and it’s unbearable. And, again, it’s not even mid-July which means it’s not going to stop anytime soon. So, please try to stay inside, unless you absolutely have to go into the out. And if you do have to venture outdoors, be sure to drink water on the regular.

In reading news, I’m still working through The Very Secret Society Irregular Witches and I’m likely going to break my self-imposed rule of reading a max of three books at once to start No Rings Attached very soon.

Riot Recommendations

I’m keeping up with the Christmas in July theme for today’s recommendations. I gotta say, the cooler weather would be much appreciated right now. Don’t be mistaken; I’m well aware that cold weather can be just as dangerous as the heat, since I very much remember February of 2021 in the South and the unprecedented blizzard we experienced. So, while I want it, I also want it safely.

Getting back on track, here are the recommendations for this week to hopefully help everyone get into a cool frame of mind while maintaining the warmish glow that romance novels can inspire in us. Also, as these are all novellas, y’all will get a bonus recommendation today!

cover of Homecoming

Homecoming by Beverly Jenkins

It’s 1883, and Lydia is on her way home for the holidays. Along the way, she runs into Gray, a man she pined for when she was younger but parted ways with. Gray, a solider, is also on the way home and the two decide to make their way home together, wondering if this is their second chance at true love. I’m a sucker for second chance romances, especially ones where a considerable amount of time has passed since it gives both parties a chance to grow up a bit more. Plus, it’s a Jenkins so you know it’s going to be amazing.

cover of The Viscount's Tempting Minx

The Viscount’s Tempting Minx by Erica Ridley

I read this novella a few years ago, when it was still under its previous name, The Viscount’s Christmas Temptation, to try to meet my Goodreads goal by the end of the year. Don’t judge me, we’ve all done it before. Anyways, I remember being delighted at the grumpy Benedict’s world being thrown into chaos when sunshiney Amelia refuses to let a little thing like a venue being destroyed derail his family’s annual Christmas celebration.

cover of Booked for Christmas

Booked for Christmas by Lily Menon

It’s romance novelist’s Sophia nightmare come true when her harshest critic Wolfe comes to her holiday party as someone else’s plus one. This bad luck seems to be doubled down on when both find themselves stranded alone when a blizzard blows in. Forced proximities are popular for winter-themed stories, likely due to the weather outside being frightful. But, it’s also a perfect time for romance as evidenced in this delightful tale.

It’s Cancer season! Happy birthday to all my fellow crabs out there and be sure to check out this list of romances that may speak to your Cancerian soul.

Yay, it’s #JenkinsJuly!

Well, we’re at the start of another week and things are still ‘meh’ at best. And I’m being generous there with my description.

On a positive note though, it’s #JenkinsJuly as well as the anniversary of 1994’s Black Summer of Love that saw the launch of the sadly now defunct Arabesque publishing line. A lot of prolific Black romance authors got their start there and one of the things I plan to do this month is to highlight them in a few ways. So stay tuned for that.

In other things bringing me joy, I have been jamming out to Halestorm’s Back From the Dead. Gotta love an awesome rock band with a strong female lead. Plus Lizzy’s voice is FIRE!

cover of The Romance Recipe

The Romance Recipe by Ruby Barrett

This follow up to the author’s debut, Hot Copy, is focused on Amy, Wes’s sister, who is a chef and owner of a struggling restaurant. Her love interest is celebrity chef, Sophie, who doesn’t like life in the spotlight and just wants to focus on cooking. When an opportunity to appear on a reality show appears to them, they take it, despite Sophie’s reservations. What neither plan on is how hard it will be to keep their attraction off the cameras, especially when they find that they keep on giving into temptation.

As an aside, I read an advanced copy of this and loved it. So excited that others will soon be able to experience this book too.

Riot Recommendations

Along with #JenkinsJuly, one thing that Romancelandia observes on the regular is Christmas in July. Honestly, I don’t get why July. I would think if we did a half Christmas celebration it would be in June. And I’m not just saying that because it’s my birthday month; it’s also because June is the sixth month and December is the twelfth.

Either way, that leads to today’s recommendations, which are holiday related. Cause, despite my tendency towards being more of a Grinch, I do love a good holiday romance, any time of the year.

cover of This Christmas Rivalry

This Christmas Rivalry by Beverly Jenkins

In this novella, Tasha inherits her grandfather’s football team, much to the dismay of General Manager Drew. The two manage to work together well enough, since they are both passionate about football and are sure they can have a civil working relationship. Happy Thursday! We’re almost through the first week of July and I hope that you made it through relatively unscathed. If not, then I hope that this upcoming weekend is restful for you and gives you the recharge you need next week to kick some butt.

Riot Recommendations

Foodie romances have been huge in the last few years. I have found myself picking these up more and more this year and I have really enjoyed the ones I’ve read. For me, I think it’s because there is something comforting about food in general. Yeah, typically we eat because it’s a necessity and we need the nourishment. But it can also be an act of love, especially when you’re cooking someone’s favorite meal for them.

Now for me, the act of starting to cook is an effort in and of itself. I drag my feet getting started, and grumble the whole way. But once I have begun I enjoy it immensely and wonder why I don’t do it more often. All that said, my recommendations for today will all feature food in a major way.

Okay, so admittedly this one is more like women’s fiction with a thread of romance but it’s close enough that I’m calling it. I love the idea of Jessie, a young woman, telling a bunch of men to eff off after getting fired and hearing them disparage absolutely everything about her. Also, rather than look at moving back home as a setback, she views it as a way to revive her love of cooking and her YouTube channel. There is also a handsome and helpful, albeit snarky, love interest to round it out.

cover of Nuts

Nuts by Alice Clayton

This is another story that features a woman having to return home after a career setback. Only this time it’s a Hollywood chef having to return home after a dairy related disaster to help keep her family’s diner from running into the ground. Again, I love that cooking is featured heavily in this and the fact that her family has a diner shows it was a lifelong love for Roxie.

Here are some recommendations for summer-fling romances.

Gotta Love Sneaky Snarky Art

Hello and happy Monday. It’s the beginning of a new week and a new month. So here’s to this one being relatively chaos-free. But considering the world that we live in, that may not be possible at all. I still have a little bit of faith, though.

In things currently bringing me joy, I found a shade of blue and green lipstick that I am loving and have added it to my regular rotation.

Come For the Romance, Stay for the Smut Wall Print by PositivelyGB

I love the simplicity and sassiness of this print. It looks deceptively tame until you get up close and then you see the snark. It’s beautiful and it’s still. It’s perfect for a reading nook, corner, or hung between bookshelves in your personal library. As an added bonus, it is also very affordable. $5.00

Riot Recommendations

I won’t lie, Past Me was planning on recommendations for today that were themed more towards the early days of America, specifically during the Revolutionary War, what with it being the Fourth of July. However, recent events have made me less patriotic than I normally am, and I don’t want to do that at all anymore, not even a little bit. And I won’t apologize for that.

Instead I’m going to recommend books where the main characters have decided they don’t want kids. The reasons don’t matter because, fictional or otherwise, it’s their choice. Much like it should be for anyone with a uterus, as they would be the one carrying the child. Because despite what others may think and say, you don’t stop being a parent when the child turns 18. You stop being a parent when you die. It’s a lifelong commitment so people should be 110% dedicated to this before they take that leap. And it sure as hell shouldn’t be a decision that is made for them by someone else.

Please note that this isn’t me saying, whether it’s in real life or in romance novels, that you can’t want to have or actually have kids. And to show this sometime in the near future, I will do recommendations for the surprise baby trope. But, again, the opposite is also true.

cover of Wild Rain

Wild Rain by Beverly Jenkins

Spring is a BAMF for many reasons, such as her being able to live independently on her own, off the land, her practice of safe sex in a time where it was almost unheard of, and her being unapologetic about not wanting kids. And the male MC, Colton, is super supportive of this which is awesome to see, no matter the time period the story takes place in.

Cover of Not Another Family Wedding

Not Another Family Wedding by Jackie Lau

Natalie is another kickass female MC who doesn’t want kids at all and, in a move that is still somewhat unique for romance novels, has had an abortion in the past. Of course, this totally valid decision isn’t always something her romantic partners agree with, so she stays mainly single. That is, until she kisses her best friend at wedding. This is a romance so there is an HEA and Jackie Lau has stated herself that it is a child-free one, so again big ups for a supportive partner.

Tote Bags, Begrudging Partners, and Friends to Lovers

We’ve almost made it through another week friends and, after the catastrophe that was last Friday, that’s a feat in and of itself. In these dark and challenging times, It is hard to find the light sometimes. And, even though there are tough times ahead, it is important to take time to take a moment and just enjoy the things, whether it’s picking up a book, losing yourself in a videogame for a few hours, or enjoying a nice cold adult beverage. Big hugs to everyone hurting right now.

I’m not sure about y’all but, as always, reading is still my consistent silent partner. So, in currently reading news, I have From Bad to Cursed, Chef’s Kiss, and The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina on my shelf.

Romance Reader Bookish Tote Bag by TheBookishCollective

I love this acrostic-inspired bag that matches some of romance’s popular tropes with a descriptive word that I know most of us resonate with. You can use it over and over again for the multiple trips to the library or bookstore, or just a day to the beach to read the books that you borrow or buy from said places. Sounds like winning all around to me. $16

Riot Recommendations

Since I’ve done enemies to lovers before, I decided that for today’s recommendations, the theme would be the friends to lovers variety. Personally, I am a big fan of this trope and always have been. I blame movies like When Harry Met Sally and not-so-much-guilty-pleasure Boys & Girls. Because honestly in this day and age, as long as it’s legal and moral, enjoy what you do because our current world is a hellscape.

Getting back on track, here are my recommendations for some friends to lovers books to add to your TBR.

cover of Bedding Lord Ned

Bedding Lord Ned by Sally MacKenzie

I’ve talked about this series before in the past and I still maintain that if you’re looking for some light historical reads with a bananas premise, it’s right up that alley. This one is about oldest son Ned, who has been a widower of four years and is looking to change that. Right when he decides this, his childhood friend Ellie—who has carried a torch for Ned for years—decides she give up the ghost and look to other suitors. Of course you know that they will end up together but the journey there, which also includes a red panty-stealing cat, is a hilarious romp.

cover of How to Marry Keanu Reeves in 90 Days

How to Marry Keanu Reeves in 90 Days by K.M. Jackson

This was one of my first reads of the year and I strongly feel that not enough people are talking about it. Is it a bananapants premise? Sure; but I mean, a lot of books out there have even zanier ones. Plus, I love the slow build between True and Lu, plus the descriptions of the various places and people they met. Because there is a lot of name dropping done here: who gets dropped? Well you have to read it to find out.

Apparently I knew a lot more about 90’s rom-coms than I thought which is nice to know. Take this quiz to find out where you rank.

Here is a round-up of some of the more popular romances that feature a celebrity

And if you’re looking for some reads that will make you want to fan yourself from more than the summer heat, check this list out.

And that’s all I have for you today. I’ll be back in your inboxes on Monday and in the meantime you can always give me a follow over on Twitter under @PScribe801. Until next time.

Comfy T-Shirt and Opposites Attract Romances

Happy Monday! Also, welcome to the last full week of June. Which, I won’t lie, was a weird sentence to write. We are almost halfway through 2022 and it seriously just boggles my mind. I don’t want to think too much more on that, so on to the rest of the newsletter!

Eat. Sleep. Romance Books T-shirt picture

Eat. Sleep. Romance Books T-Shirt by WaryaTshirts

Simple, to the point, and comfy. Those are three of my favorite things. And it comes in white and black as well, so if gray isn’t your preference, you have two other options. $19.

New Releases

cover of Sweeter Than Honey

Sweeter Than Honey by Joy Avery

In an effort to get her mother to stop worrying about her love life, baker and widow Rylee tells her that she has her eye on Canten, Sheriff of her small town. As often happens in these hamlets, gossip spreads like wildfire and soon the two are involved in a fake relationship to help save face. It’s not too long before they realize that maybe they’re not acting after all.

cover of Power: The Billionaire Bae

Power: The Billionaire Bae by Amber Ghe

After there is a security breach, CSO Power realizes he’s been working too hard and jumps on his motorcycle for a much needed break. While in Vegas, jilted/runaway bride Aspen is looking for a quick ride out of the drama that her life has become and hops on for the ride. Both ride off in the night, not realizing that their lives are about to become closely entwined.

Riot Recommendations

One trope I have always been a fan of, even back before I read ‘grown-up’ romance books was opposites attract. And not just because it was a catchy duet from the 80’s between Paula Abdul and an animated cat.

Sorry for the earwig that you may have now from that blast from the past. But, if I’m being honest, I’m only a little bit sorry.

Getting back on track, here are some of my recommendations for romance novels that help to highlight this trope since it’s still very much present in the romance world, even if it most frequently now shows up as ‘grumpy/sunshine’ romances. While these may also overlap, that isn’t necessarily the only opposite factored in.

cover of Trust Falling For You

(Trust) Falling For You by Charish Reid

A ‘fun professor’ is forced to team up with a co-worker that is strictly by the books at their work retreat. Not only that but, through a series of random events, they also end up as cabinmates for the duration of the retreat. Oh, yes, please. Sign me up for that. Plus, I still maintain that Yolanda is the sister of my soul with her avoidance of all the outside things.

cover of Up on the Roof

Up on the Roof by A.L. Brooks

Funnily enough this one is also a close proximity romance a! Rival neighbors become roommates when a storm displaces the normally quiet Lena and the not-so-quiet Megan offers her extra bedroom as a temporary home. As often happens with these types of scenarios, real feelings develop and bloom, leaving the situation ripe for romance.

Plan a date and get matched up with a leading man from a popular rom-com. I got Matty from 13 Going on 30 and I am not upset.

Chefs in romance novels certainly do seem to be popular this year.

I spaced last week and forgot to put up Love Sweet’s Arrow Trope Tuesday TikTok video last week, so here is Part 2 of their Fairy Tale Retellings recommendations.

And, speaking of LSA, if you missed out on celebrating their third anniversary celebration live, you can watch the replay here.

That’s it for today, friends. I’ll be back Thursday with more swag, new releases, and recommendations for you. In the meantime, you can give me a follow over on Twitter under @PScribe801. Happy reading and stay hydrated.
