Ariana DeBose to Play Calypso in Kraven the Hunter

Oscar nominee Arian DeBose has been cast in Sony’s upcoming Marvel movie Kraven the Hunter. The recent SAG Award winner will star opposite Aaron Taylor Johnson, who is playing the titular role. While it is unconfirmed who DeBose will be in the film, sources say she will be playing Calypso. Kraven is an anti-hero Marvel character who is best known as one of Spider-Man’s most formidable enemies. J.C. Chandor is directing the film, and Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing. Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk wrote the screenplay. Kraven the Hunter will be released theatrically January 13, 2023.

Stephen King Returns to Beloved Character in New Book

Stephen King is returning to beloved character Holly Gibney in his recently announced upcoming novel Holly. King announced the new novel on the most recent episode of the Kingcast podcast. Holly Gibney is a private investigator with OCD. The character previously appeared in King’s Bill Hodges trilogy (Mr. MercedesFinders KeepersEnd of Watch) and his 2018 book The Outsider. “I could never let Holly Gibney go from the Mr. Mercedes books,” King told podcast hosts Eric Vespe and Scott Wampler. “I mean, she was supposed to be a walk-on character and she just kind of stole the book and stole my heart and so I just finished a novel that’s called Holly and it’s all her, man.”

Disney+ Greenlights Nemesis as First Dutch Drama Original

Disney+ has greenlit its first Dutch drama series Nemesis, which will be an eight-episode adaptation of the best-selling crime novel of the same name by Simon de Waal. Dutch production company Pupkin is producing the series, with Willem Bosch and Pieter Kuijpers serving as showrunners on the project. Disney+ will premiere the series on its streaming service worldwide in the fall of 2023. “Nemesis is a thrilling crime series about the influence of the crime scene on our society and a wayward woman in the Public Prosecution Service who goes to war in an unorthodox way,” said Mascha van Erven, director local original productions for Disney+ Benelux.  “We are incredibly proud to announce the first Dutch drama series for Disney+. The best storytellers within the Netherlands will tell the story. We can’t wait to bring this authentic story to all Disney+ viewers in the Netherlands and around the world.”

In Lafayette, Louisiana, the Library Board has granted itself the power to ban books. The meeting included several people heckling the library board president and led to an LGBTQ activist being arrested for disturbing the peace.
