We’re Getting a Glow-Up

Since 2011, it’s been our goal at Book Riot to bring you coverage of books and reading that is as diverse as books and readers are and to evolve alongside our community.

Readers who have been around for a while have seen this newsletter through several evolutions, and we’re excited to share our latest glow-up. Starting Monday, October 2, this email will be called Best of Book Riot, and it will come to you through Substack.

As readers, you won’t need to do anything. We’ll move everyone over to Substack, and our emails will still land in your inbox just like always. The exciting part is that the move allows us to give these daily emails a more personal touch. Each day’s featured stories will be chosen by a Book Riot editor, and you won’t just get links to the web. We’ll be able to include highlights from our podcasts, newsletters, and more! Variety is the spice.

The newsletter will remain free, though we may expand to offer paid bonus content and community features in the future.

TBR Hardcover Price Increase

As you’ve no doubt heard, the ongoing pandemic has resulted in significant supply chain issues and increased costs for shipping and materials. The publishing industry has been no exception, and we’ve felt the impact firsthand here at TBR. Additionally, the USPS recently raised media mail rates by more than 10%.

To accommodate these changes and allow us to continue providing you with excellent personalized book mail, your TBR subscription rate will be increasing by $2.50 per quarter ($10/year for annual subscribers) beginning December 1. This change will take effect at your next billing cycle.

TBR Fulfillment Transition

Hi there, reader friend!

TBR turned 3 last month, and it’s hard to believe how much we’ve grown since the very first round of recommendations was packed and shipped out of our executive director’s dining room. So far, we’ve recommended over 50,000 reads to book lovers like you, and one thing we’ve learned is that all these books take up a lot of space!

As TBR has grown, we’ve realized that it needs its own home, so effective August 30th, we are bringing the fulfillment operation in-house at Book Riot. Our partners at Print: A Bookstore have done an incredible job these last three years, and we couldn’t be more grateful for all the ways they’ve worked magic for TBR, especially through the myriad challenges of the pandemic. If you’re ever in Portland, Maine (or if you’re looking for a great indie to support online), pay them a visit and check out their fantastic staff picks.

This change shouldn’t impact your experience as a TBR customer—we’ve been working behinds the scenes for several months to make it a smooth transition, and we are grateful for your patience with any hiccups along the way—but we wanted to let you know why you won’t see Print’s name and branding on TBR materials anymore.

As we look to the next three years (and hopefully many more) for TBR, having fulfillment under our own roof will allow us to explore new additions to the service and continue expanding the ways we help passionate book nerds find their next great read. It’s an exciting time, and we’re so glad you’re here for it.
