Prepare Your Shelves!

exes and os book cover

Exes and O’s by Amy Lea (Jove Books, January 10)

I’ve been really vibing with cute romcoms this month. Maybe it’s because they go so well with all the corny Christmas movies I love watching this time of year. I’m looking at you, Freddie Prinze Jr Netflix Christmas movie (I know it has a name, but this is its name for me). Anyway, I had a point, and that was…if you’re into that kind of stuff too, then you’re going to want to put this book on your TBR for January 2023. Because it comes out January 10th! So soon!

Tara Chen is a romance novel connoisseur. She still loves love, despite having her heart broken by not one, not two, but 10 different men. All of them dumped her for the same reason: apparently, she can be a little clingy. Still, Tara is determined to find the right guy for her. There’s only one problem. The dating apps just don’t work when you’re looking to have that perfect, romcom style, meet-cute kind of romance.

So what does Tara decide to do? Revisit all of her old flames to see if she can create that trope-worthy, romcom style, second-chance romance. Will it work out the way Tara has carefully planned? Or, is she in for some surprises? (of course she’s in for some surprises…)

Wiip Snags Rights to The Lemon by S.E. Boyd

Independent studio Wiip, producer of The Mare of Easttown and The Summer I Turned Pretty, has snagged rights to the novel The Lemon. The critically acclaimed novel is written by S.E. Boyd, the pen name for authors Alessandra Lusardi, Kevin Alexander, and Joe Keohane. The story follows the aftermath of the death of John Doe, host of a culinary travel show, who is found dead in a Belfast hotel room in an apparent suicide. As the news of his tragic death breaks, many people, both friends and opportunists, seek to take control of the narrative. Alexander, Keohane and Lusardi will executive produce the television adaptation with Wiip’s Paul Lee, Mark Roybal, and Nate Winslow.  Roybal said in a statement, “The masterminds collectively known as S.E. Boyd — Kevin, Joe and Alessandra — have done the unthinkable in my estimation: they have created a bold, rambunctious, singular voice and a clever plot that never fails to surprise. We can’t wait to see them cook up a show based on their brilliant series.”

Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, and More Respond to Debut Author’s Lonely Book Launch

When debut author Chelsea Banning vented on Twitter about her sparsely attended book launch, she had no idea that she would get the attention of some of the world’s most famous authors, including Stephen King, Margaret Atwood, and Neil Gaiman. “Terry Pratchett and I did a signing in Manhattan for Good Omens that nobody came to at all. So you are two up on us,” Gaiman wrote to the author. “I have sat lonely at a signing table many times only to have someone approach … and ask me where the bathroom is,” Jodi Picoult wrote. Banning even got the attention of Flava Flav, who tweeted, “Here to hype up ya next signing!” Banning says she has no signings planned at the moment, but she is working on it.

And she’s hungry. She craves the forbidden flavors of butter and sugar. But if she gives into her desires, she’ll be forced out of the only community she’s ever known.

Words of Literary Wisdom

“We all experience attraction differently, Some of us fall in and out of love easily. Some of us don’t experience romantic love at all. Some of us have to fight to let ourselves be vulnerable enough to fall in love. Some of us have to fight to let other people love us. Some of us need emotional intimacy in order to experience sexual attraction. All love and ways of loving are love.”

— Kiss Her Once for Me by Alison Cochrun

What’s Up in the Book Community?

My iPhone is constantly telling me I spend too much time staring at my screen, which is honestly so rude. But this means I spend a lot of time scrolling around the online book community: BookTube, Bookstagram, BookTok, BookLinkedIn (JK. That’s not a thing…I don’t think). You get the idea. Don’t have the time, energy, or the will to do all of that yourself? No problem. I got you. In this weekly section of Book Radar, we’ll take a look at something cool, interesting, and/or newsy that’s going on in the book community.

Ever wondered what your favorite celebrities love to read? Well, I have the Instagram account for you! Celebrity Book Recs posts neat graphics that include different celebrities’ fave books, what the celeb has said about the book, and where the book is mentioned as one of their favorites. It’s been really fun reading through their posts so far. Which celebrity do you think has the best taste in books, according to these graphics? I’m really loving Brie Larson’s picks (part 1 and part 2) and Elliot Page’s picks.

And Here’s A Cat Picture!

ginger and black cat looking out of the window

Oh hey look! We did get some snow last weekend. Do you see that tiny little patch of white on the grass? Yeah, that’s snow. Look, the cats are very impressed too. They can’t look away. Yes, I am from the south and snow still gets me excited. At least the cats agree with me. And that’s all I have for you today, friends! See you Monday, same time same place.
