LGBTQ Book Sales Soar
LGBTQ sales have increased over the past few years and show no sign of slowing down, with Adam Silvera’s They Both Die at the End leading the charge. According to market research firm The NPD Group, LGBTQ fiction titles doubled the previous year’s sales in 2021. And so far in 2022, sales have continued to increase by 39%. The biggest gains have been in young adult fiction. Kristen McLean, books industry analyst for NPD noted in a statement, “The growth in young-adult categories, in particular, mirrors a generational shift toward a more open and inclusive attitude toward gender diversity and sexual orientation”
Ruth Ozeki Wins Women’s Prize for Fiction
The 2022 winner of the Women’s Prize for Fiction is Ruth Ozeki with The Book of Form and Emptiness. Ozeki was presented with the £30,000 prize, endowed by an anonymous donor, and the “Bessie,” a limited edition bronze figurine by Grizel Niven, at an awards ceremony in Bedford Square Gardens, London. The ceremony was hosted by novelist and Women’s Prize Founder Director, Kate Mosse. The 2022 Chair of Judges Mary Ann Sieghart said, “In an extraordinary year for fiction written by women, and from an incredibly strong shortlist, we were thrilled to choose Ruth Ozeki’s The Book of Form and Emptiness, which stood out for its sparkling writing, warmth, intelligence, humor and poignancy. A celebration of the power of books and reading, it tackles big issues of life and death, and is a complete joy to read. Ruth Ozeki is a truly original and masterful storyteller.”
HBO Max Drops Teaser Trailer for Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin
Pretty Little Liars is back, in the form of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, a new series set to premiere on HBO Max on July 28th. And HBO Max has dropped the first teaser trailer. The show will premiere with three episodes on July 28th. Then two more episodes will be out on August 4th and 11th. The last three episodes of the season will be out on August 18th.
