The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) Partners with Worldbuilders for Silent Auction
Once again, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) has partnered with Worldbuilders to run their annual silent auction. Worldbuilders is an organization of “geeks doing good” to support humanitarian efforts worldwide. Items in the auction include virtual sessions with sci-fi and fantasy authors, signed books, rare collectibles, and more. The auction continues for the next four days. Marvel Introduces a Spectacular New Mutant Hero
This June, meet Escapade, Marvel’s newest mutant superhero. Escapade will join other LGBTQIA+ Marvel heroes this year as part of Marvel’s ongoing Marvel’s Voices series. Marvel’s Voices: Pride #1 will feature Escapade as a central character in the story, written by Charlie Jane Anders and drawn by artist duo and Eisner-nominated cartoonists Ro Stein and Ted Brandt, with colors by Tamra Bonvillain. Escapade, whose real name is Shela Sexton, is a trans mutant who is able to switch physical spaces with other people, or “trade any specific physical or abstract attribute such as possessions, organizational status, skills, superhuman powers, and even situations.” Marvel’s Voices: Pride #1 will only be the beginning of Escapade’s adventures, as she will return in the fall in a special story arc of New Mutants, guest-written by Anders.
Fantasy Novelist Patricia A. McKillip Has Died
Author Patricia A. McKillip died May 6, 2022 at the age of 74. McKillip was best known for her fantasy novels for children and young adults, including the Riddle-Master trilogy. McKillip received many awards for her writing, including a World Fantasy life achievement award in 2008. She is survived by her husband David Lunde.
