Hey YA Fans!
I hope this new month is treating you well and that you’re in the middle of your new favorite book. If your local library does a summer reading club, here’s your reminder to sign up–I’m going to do that as soon as I finish this newsletter.
If you haven’t yet taken advantage of this year’s SYNC program, which offers two free audiobooks every week (one of which is a YA book!), you should.
Vintage hotel keychains are a weakness of mine, and this retro bookish keychain is calling my name. $9, and you can choose your color.
New Releases
For the mega list of new YA books out this week, you can slide over here, but here are two to know about right here and right now. On Thursday, I’ll highlight two paperback releases out this week.
This Place Is Still Beautiful by XiXi Tian
Something about summer makes a big, sweeping story just what you crave. Tian’s book is just this: it’s a story about two sisters, the racist incident their family is victim of in their small Midwestern town, and the summer in which both girls process their experiences very differently.
Zyla and Kai by Kristina Forest
Kristina Forest is writing some of the most fun YA romances right now, and this one sounds like no exception. Zyla and Kai could not be any different, and they’ve broken up, as many anticipated they would. Or HAVE they broken up? On a school trip to the Poconos, they run away together, and the story which unravels travels past and present, exploring what went wrong–and what went right–in their unlikely love story.

Cover Faceoffs
How about a look at two YA books that got makeovers in their paperback edition? Which do you like better?
The feel of these two covers for Jennifer Niven’s Breathless could not be any more different. Despite not being a huge illustrated cover fan, I am drawn more to the paperback on the right. I admit I’m a little confused about the shadow of her face though.
The Secret of a Heart Note by Stacey Lee came out in late 2016 and kind of slipped between the cracks. Now that Lee’s career has only continued to grow, it’s great to see this book is getting a refreshed look in paperback (out on June 22!). The new look is simple and also fits with the looks of her other titles–I only wish we had the face of an Asian American girl on the cover.
Thanks for hanging out, and we’ll see you again on Thursday with your YA paperback releases and YA book news.
Until then, happy reading!
