Roxane Gay’s THE BANKS Gets a TV Adaptation and More Book Radar!

Happy Monday, y’all!

I’m a big fan of the word “y’all,” by the way. If you want to learn more about that, let me know, and I’ll give you my speech.

Anyway, in other news, I just finished Station Eleven on HBO Max and my face hurts from crying. I just need a big blanket and a cozy warm tea after that show. It was so good, but so sad. Has anyone else finished it yet? Would love to hear your thoughts on it if so, especially if you’ve also read the book!

And now for more book chat.

I’m a Contributing Editor at Book Riot, I write the Today in Books newsletter, and I’m a Bibliologist for Book Riot’s Tailored Book Recommendations subscription service. Prepare Your Shelves!

Cold cover image

Cold by Mariko Tamaki (Roaring Brook Press, February 8)

Make some space on your shelves right away, because this book is coming out *checks notes* TOMORROW! Author Mariko Tamaki is an award-winning author who has written comic books for BOOM! Studios, Marvel and DC Comics. I really enjoyed her graphic novel This One Summer, which she co-wrote with Jillian Tamaki. If you somehow missed this one, I encourage you to check it out! Then pick up her new YA novel Cold.

Cold is a supernatural mystery about Todd, who has just been murdered and left frozen and naked in the snow. Now he is a ghost hovering over his dead body. As detectives investigate Todd’s murder, Todd replays the moments in his life that lead to his death.

While Georgia never knew Todd, she hasn’t been able to stop thinking about him since she learned about his death. Both she and Todd were outcasts at their school, and they’re both queer. But there’s something else. Georgia also feels like she’s seen Todd before. Somewhere where he shouldn’t have been.

Monday Memes

Sometimes books can really put you through it. If you know what I mean, then you will appreciate this meme.

Also, I have another question. Are you a big book re-reader? If so, this one will resonate with you.

Other Things That Make Me Happy

So yeah, I’ve been drinking a lot of tea. My friend Janet (hi Janet!) got me hooked on Plum Deluxe Tea. So if you’re looking for some super yummy teas, check them out. They’ve got a Tea of the Month Club and everything. Like this is legit.

Also, yes, I am playing Wordle. Thanks for asking.

And Here’s A Cat Picture!

black cat with outstretched arm

I adore this cat.

Phantom loves to sit in his cat tree with one arm out like this so that you can see just how long and regal he is. I see his arm out and I just want to kiss his royal paw.

Welp, that’s all I’ve got for this fine Monday. I hope you have a wonderful week. I hope you take moments to relax and read. And we’ll talk soon!
