suicide clubSuicide Club: A Novel About Living by Rachel Heng (Henry Holt and Co., July 10)

Set in future NYC, this is a family drama wrapped up in sci-fi ribbons. Lea Kirino has the potential to live forever (literally), but when she runs into her estranged father on the sidewalk and becomes drawn into the Suicide Club, she learns just how precarious and implausible forever can be. A refreshingly original debut.

okay fine whateverOkay Fine Whatever: The Year I Went from Being Afraid of Everything to Only Being Afraid of Most Things by Courtenay Hameister (Little, Brown & Company, July 31)

This was as charming and funny as I wanted it to be. As someone who is afraid of pretty much everything, I really appreciated this book. Hameister decide to face some of her fears and writes about her experiences. Chapters include “An Hour with a Professional Cuddler: In Wherein I Learn Not to Hate Affirmations. As Much” and “Getting Legally High: In Which I Learn That Some People Just Shouldn’t Smoke Pot.”

And this is funny.

This tweet is not book related but it made me actually laugh out loud.
